Education Funding Remained Flat in 2011, Report Finds
A new report from Grantmakers in Education suggests that while philanthropic support for education in 2011 was flat on a year-over-year basis, education funders became more strategic in their grantmaking. According to GFE's annual benchmarking report, more than 100 of the 184 grantmaking organizations surveyed (56 percent) said their giving for education initiatives was about the same in 2011 as in 2010, while one-third anticipated they would end up giving more and 7 percent said they would end up giving less. The report's findings also suggest that funders have been targeting hot-button and emerging initiatives such as teacher quality and preparation, commons standards and assessment, and development and STEM-focused initiatives.
